Allie Smith, PT, DPT

Doctor of Physical Therapy

Allie Smith, PT, DPT, specializes in orthopedic rehabilitation- helping dancers, performers, athletes, and active individuals recover from injury, optimize movement, and return to the activities they love. Her approach combines advanced hands-on manual therapy, movement analysis, and individualized rehabilitation programs that address both the symptoms and underlying causes of pain. Known for her thoughtful, patient-centered care, Dr. Smith helps patients restore strength, improve movement quality, and build the resilience needed for lasting recovery and top performance.

Dr. Smith’s connection to movement is deeply personal. A classically trained ballet dancer, she trained in the American Ballet Theatre’s JKO Pre-Professional Program and performed with both American Ballet Theatre and Oklahoma City Ballet. Having experienced the physical and mental demands of performing firsthand, she brings a unique perspective to rehabilitation that bridges clinical expertise with real-world performance.

She earned her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Columbia University and her clinical expertise was refined through advanced training at the NYU Langone Harkness Center for Dance Injuries. She became certified as an Active Release Techniques® (ART) provider, integrating specialized soft tissue treatment into comprehensive rehabilitation programs.

Beyond the clinic, Dr. Smith provides backstage care for Broadway performers in productions such as Buena Vista Social Club and SMASH, helping them stay healthy through the rigorous demands of rehearsal and performance. She is also dedicated to nurturing young dancers; she is on the faculty at Ballet Academy East where she teaches “Progressive Strength Training for Dancers” to their pre-professional men. Her commitment to advancing dance medicine extends to research: she presented at the American Physical Therapy Association Combined Sections Meeting, earning the Performing Arts Special Interest Group Student Scholarship Award, and her publication, Considerations for Treating Dancers in High Heels, was published by the APTA Performing Arts Special Interest Group as a clinical resource for healthcare providers.

Dr. Smith treats a wide range of orthopedic conditions, involving the foot and ankle, knee, hip, spine, and upper extremity. She works with patients recovering from sports injuries, overuse conditions, movement dysfunction, and post-operative rehabilitation, combining hands-on treatment, targeted exercise, and patient education to restore movement, prevent future injury, and help patients return to the activities they enjoy with confidence.
