Allie Smith, PT, DPT
Doctor of Physical Therapy
Alexandra (Allie) Smith is a Doctor of Physical Therapy with expertise in orthopedics and performing arts. She earned her doctorate from Columbia University, where she completed the advanced track in orthopedics and pursued elective coursework in sports, performing arts, yoga, foot and ankle, and pelvic health.
Allie is dedicated to helping people return to their passions, and providing them with the knowledge and tools to continue to grow. She combines a manual therapy approach with customized exercises tailored to personal goals. Her skillset has been honed through her work with a multidisciplinary team of physical therapists, surgeons, MDs, and athletic trainers during her clinical affiliation at the Harkness Center for Dance Injuries at NYU Langone, as well as other orthopedic clinics in the NYC area.
Allie is an Active Release Techniques (ART) Certified Provider. She has participated in pre-season fitness screenings for Alvin Ailey dancers, and performer care for the Broadway production of Hamilton. She has delivered medical care at the NYC Marathon finish line triage center. Additionally, she presented her research at the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) Combined Sections Meeting, where she was honored with the Performing Arts Special Interest Group Student Scholarship Award. Her additional research on “Considerations for Treating Dancers in High Heels” was published by APTA Performing Arts Special Interest Group as a resource for healthcare providers.
Prior to becoming a physical therapist, Allie received a BS in Rehabilitation Sciences and a BFA in Ballet Pedagogy from the University of Oklahoma (Go Sooners!). With over 20 years of dance experience, she has performed with American Ballet Theatre and Oklahoma City Ballet.
