Musculoskeletal ultrasound is an imaging technique that uses sound waves to produce real-time images of structures within the body. Unlike traditional X-rays, ultrasound does not use ionizing radiation.

What Happens During the Scan?

The scan is non-invasive and painless. Gel is applied to the skin, and the smooth transducer probe moves over the area. Dynamic movements may be requested. Findings are discussed directly with you during the examination.

Does Ultrasound Hurt?

Diagnostic ultrasound itself does not hurt. Pressing the probe over an acutely injured or inflamed tendon may reproduce mild tenderness. Injections or guided procedures involving needles are separate from diagnostic scans.
